GULF ISLAND ROUTES:

British Columbia’s Gulf Islands stretch along the southeastern coast of Vancouver Island in the Straight of Georgia for more than a hundred miles, forming one of the most beautiful protected paddling and cruising areas in the world. Given the warm and relatively dry weather, averaging less than 760 mm (30 inches) rain annually (most of this between November and March) the area is Canada’s very own “Mediterranean” paradise. Although this area is as close to metro Vancouver and Victoria as a fifteen minute sea-plane ride or an hour or two on the ferry, the area is a peaceful and relaxed mix of uninhabited and rural coastal living, characterized by artisans, creative souls, seasonal residents and some limited agriculture. The area is filled with coves, bays, channels, endless islands and islets and rocky points and reefs. Peaceful nooks surrounded by sculpted sandstone, overhanging arbutus, garry oaks and old-growth fir, contribute to a scenic area begging for both energetic and gentle explorations. While maritime activities are possible year round, Silva Bay Kayak Adventures offers a variety of paddling opportunities and rich Gulf Island experiences when conditions are ideal from May through October.

Operating out of the oceanfront Silva Bay Inn www.silvabayinn.ca on Gabriola Island, Silva Bay Kayak Adventures (SBKA), offers both our camping adventure tours, well known for the client-oriented and group experience, to weekend and/or week long Gulf Island explorations based from one of several idyllic Gulf Island cottages. Accommodation choices are also available at the lovely Silva Bay Inn overlooking picturesque Silva Bay. Silva Bay Kayak Adventures provides a safe and enjoyable Gulf Island experience for both beginners and experienced paddlers, and BC residents and visitors alike will have wonderful and memorable experiences.

Silva Bay Kayak Adventures is owned and operated by a long time Gabriola Island family. Our company also runs kayak tours from November through April in the Sea of Cortez out of Loreto, Baja Mexico. (www.bajakayakadventures.com). Ryan and Hilary Masson, our lead guides and business partners, are fully trained and certified, with extensive paddling experience throughout BC (and Baja), especially having grown up in these Gulf Island home waters. In BC and Baja we operate with the same commitment to client service, safety and a participative philosophy, while offering a broad range of tour styles. While we would pleased to develop and outfit a custom tour to meet special interests, our scheduled tour options are described below or click on the sidebar for each tour.
